Review: Mirrored Deception by Emma Leigh Reed

Synopsis: Jayla Ralston is running. After her apartment break in, she decided to get away from life and her overbearing twin sister. She finds the perfect Maine hide away to make some changes - The Cliffhouse Bed and Breakfast. It was perfect...until the phone calls resumed - kicking her paranoia into high gear.

Trenton Montgomery is out for revenge. It has taken him ten years to return to his childhood home. After sneaking into an empty wing to focus on his clandestine investigation, a beautiful woman shows up - causing him to feel emotions,
other than anger, for the first time in a long time.

My Review: I really enjoyed reading Mirrored Deception. I haven't read a 'non paranormal' book in quite sometime and I've always loved a little mystery. I thought to myself several times during this book that I was really impressed at how well Emma was able to keep her characters in order. I would have gotten so confused with the twins.
Emma does a great job with her descriptions in the book. I felt like I was walking around the Cliffhouse with Jayla and it definitely sounds like a beautiful place to relax.
This was one of those books that got to a point in the story where... I didn't want to put it down. I was anxious to know what was going to happen next, but just as I was on the edge of my seat and really really into it, it was over. It felt like the ending was rushed to an end. I felt like it definitely could have gone on for a few more chapters with more description. This was a great quick read and I will definitely be checking out her other book, Crashing Hearts.

All in all I gave this book 4 hearts!

Happy reading my fellow book lovies!
Christina

Mirrored Deception Blog Tour

This week I have the privilege of doing a guest post by the author of Mirrored Deception, Emma Leigh Reed!

Guest Post:
"Finally – Published

I started my writing career five years ago. When I decided I wanted to write a book I was totally clueless as to what the publishing world entailed. I started writing and then edited, and then thought my story was ready. What I didn’t know about the publishing world is that it is a slow moving pace. You submit and wait months, and then some more months before even possibly getting a request for maybe only a partial. Then the waiting begins again. In that waiting time, you wonder about the possibilities of being published, and the fear of being rejected. Then as that first rejection came in I learned another valuable lesson, something that I hadn’t envisioned as I stepped into world of attempting publication and that is to be thick-skinned.

I knew there would be criticism and rejection with the publishing world, but I never realized the extent to how some editors or agents would take their opinion to the brutally honest extreme. Am I glad I endured that? Absolutely. It was four short years for my first book to sell and I have never for a minute regretted entering the writing world and facing publication.

There is a lot you don’t know when you start this journey. However, if this is a dream of yours – to write – than do it and don’t let anyone tell you it is impossible. My advice is to be thick skinned. Take criticism in stride, use what you can and set aside the rest. Remember this is your story. Don’t change it based on one person’s opinion so it changes the whole outlook or voice, but be encouraged by those who are willing to criticize you and yet give you options to better yourself. Don’t be afraid to ask a seasoned writer for guidance or advice. Writing is a solitary career path so reach out to other writers for support.

Most of all, be true to your voice and let it flow over the pages."

Enlightened Book Tour

Hello friends and fellow fans of Devyn Dawson... Don't worry, if you're not a fan yet, you will be once you finally get the opportunity to check out the talent that Devyn has.
Devyn is a dear friend of mine for many, many years. I was ecstatic for her when she finally decided to follow her life long dream of becoming an author. I am so proud of the accomplishments she has made thus far. In such a short amount of time, and several books later, she has become one of my favorite authors! I used to love listening to her tell mini stories, but now I get longer stories with much more detail!

Here's a little more info on the amazing Devyn

Author Bio - Devyn Dawson

Devyn is a full time writer, wife and pet owner.  She's been writing since she was a small child.  Her first office job was working for a publisher and data entry of manuscripts.  She literally typed them and saved them on real 'floppy discs'.  When she was in high school back in the 80's, she would read Stephen King one day and Sweet Valley High the next day.  She said one day she'd find a way to merge the two books.
Currently Devyn and her husband of 19 years live in New Bern, North Carolina. Devyn is originally from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and still refers to it as home.  She has two adult children, Paris and Hunter.  When she realized she would be facing an empty nest and family so far away, she decided to write about characters to entertain her.  Her new series The Light Tamer, is about friendship, relationships and falling in love.  The Light Tamer series is a younger young adult book, the one that takes you back to the beginning before being jaded.  It offers characters that are both good and flawed.  Throw in some mythology and you're in for a quick trip that will leave you breathless and enlightened.

Devyn has just released her newest book... TODAY! AND... a giveaway (at the end of this blog) Enlightened is the 2nd book in The Light Tamer series.
Here is a short synopsis of the book...

As I promised before, I have a review of the wonderful and fabulous The Light Tamer by Devyn Dawson.

The Light Tamer
Devyn Dawson
Release Date: April 24th, 2012
Genre: YA Paranormal Romance
Publisher: Self-Pub

Jessie's moved from New York to North Carolina one week after school let out for summer break. Her newly 'single' mother and her move in with grandma Gayle. Being a teenager in a retirement area is one more thing to add to her 'this sucks' list. It's bad enough to have to move, but even worse her alcoholic father left for Greece on a quest to fulfill his artistic abilities.
Things begin to look up when she is reintroduced to Caleb, the dorky boy that saved her life one summer at the beach. Caleb is no longer scrawny and nerdy, he is now tall, dark, and handsome. Caleb is a Light Tamer.
Caleb introduces Jessie to Amber, a no frills, snarky, sassy attitude Light Tamer. Her words will have you laughing out loud and gasping 'oh no she didn't'. Amber's father was paralyzed last summer in a surfing accident that left her brother dead and her life upside down.

This paranormal romance will keep you on the edge of your seat with humor, romance, and determination. Fall head over heels for Caleb and Jessie.

My Review:
This was such a great read. It was 2 of my favorite things... quick and happy! I had no problem diving right into this book and didn't want to put it down. As a matter of fact, I finished it in one night. Jessie is such a "real" girl. She has real life family drama and these days, who doesn't? She and her mother are being forced to leave her hometown and go live in New Bern with her eccentric grandmother, leaving her friends behind. The only friend she had made in New Bern during summer vacations was quite nerdy... until now.

The minute she sees Caleb again, she can't believe her eyes. It's amazing what time can do for someone. She is instantly attracted and completely shocked when she is asked out on a date with him. This is when she finds out all about what a Light Tamer is. This was so exciting to me because I have never read about Light Tamers before. This was totally new on the paranormal spectrum for me and I was dying to find out more!
Jessie meets one of Caleb's friends named, Amber. Most people wouldn't take a second thought to being her friend, but Jessie sees right through her quirkiness. I have to say that Amber has to be one of my favorite characters. She has such spunk, attitude and a crazy style. I just can't wait to read the next crazy thing that will come out of her mouth.
Between Jessie's attraction for Caleb, Amber's sassy attitude and Jessie's one of a kind grandmother, I can't wait for the next book in this series.
This book is a DON'T miss if you are a Devyn Dawson fan and if you're not a Devyn Dawson fan... You will be now!
